Does social media improve people’s communication skills? / ESSAY

Social media is by far the most powerful and amazing thing in the world. The idea of connecting with people who live hundreds of kilometers away is absolutely insane. Social media’s benefits don’t end there though. It helps so many people to have a voice, be heard, get help if needed and it also helps to increase the general understanding of the world and people around you.

I can’t even describe how much social media has helped me during all these years. And by help I mean save. I’ve become so much more understanding and accepting thanks to social media. I’ve gained so much knowledge about myself and the things I’m interested in and surrounded by. I have most definitely become the best version of myself thanks to this platform. And I’m pretty sure that most people my age would agree with me on this.

However, let’s talk specifically about how it affected my social skills and not only mine but also others’. To be honest I cannot think of anything positive. I think communication is great through social media when you are far, but as soon as it gets to real life everything seems so much more stressful. Communication on those platforms are so easy, that when it comes to real life everything gets somehow very complicated. I’m pretty sure everyone has things they could say and do on social platforms, but not in real life. The communication on social media isn’t always easy, though. Sometimes it is easier to just be physically around the person to better understand what they think and feel. Doing this through social media is harder.

As a person who understands these I always try to take risks and allow myself to be more comfortable each day, by being “my social media self” in real life. I think this has helped me a lot to understand myself, my limits and allow myself to do things out of my comfort zone.

To sum up, I would say that social media definitely doesn’t help to improve communication skills. It does, however, let us feel more comforted and allows us to express ourselves in many other ways, which I think is equally important to understand.

PERSONALITY DISORDERS / project

I chose this topic mainly because I am very interested in psychology, therapy and specifically personality disorders. I find them especially interesting, because they are interconnected with all the mental illnesses and it’s always interesting and essential to find reasons for why people are the way they are and try to understand them and make them feel validated. Below is the result of the research I’ve done.

My favorite season

After the intense heat of the summer, it can be a relief when it finally starts to cool down. September is a great month weather-wise, as warm days start to give way to cool, crisp nights. After spending so much time in summer clothes, you finally get to wear cozy clothes, drink hot chocolate and walk in the rain. I don’t really like sun as it makes me feel uncomfortable and unhappy, so it’s very nice to finally have a gloomy and dark weather. In autumn everything starts looking aesthetic and its fun to walk on tree leaves. Although a lot of people like autumn I still think that it’s not appreciated enough.

Task 3. If you could make one important change to the world today, what change would you make? Please give reasons, details, and examples to support your response.
I would like everyone to think before speaking. Some people think too rationally and never understand that what they say or do will hurt the other one. Sometimes it’s so much better not to say anything rather than ruin someone’s day or opinion of you. This is actually important for me especially because I consider myself a very sensitive person and for someone who is very thoughtful about not hurting people it’s really hard to find friends who understand and relate to me. If u have a choice between not speaking and being rude please just do your own thing and don’t ruin someone’s day.
